Mullewa Pioneer Cemetery
Situated approximately 1 km to the North of Mullewa on the Mullewa-Carnarvon Road the traveller will come upon the Pioneer Cemetery.
At the Western end is a grave and altar erected by Mons. Hawes in memory of Iris McDermott the daughter of the Mullewa nurse midwife “Maggie McDermott.
Traditionally on All Souls Day mass would be celebrated from this altar.
In 1924 one of Mons Hawes Altar boys, twelve year old Selby Arnold drowned in the town dam and once again Mons. Hawes with great compassion designed and decorated the grave sight. This grave can be seen close to the altar with the inscription on one side,
‘When thou shalt pass through the waters I will be with thee’- Isaias Ch 43 V2.
